Washington Women's Art Center (1975-1987)
EXHIBITION IN SUMMER 2018
In the summer of 2018, the Alper Initiative for Washington Art at the American University Museum will have two juried exhibits that will honor the Washington Women’s Arts Center, a feminist arts organization in the Washington metropolitan area in the 1970s -1980s. The juror for both exhibitions will be Francoise Yohalem.
We are soliciting images of work available for the exhibitions from former members and exhibitors of the WWAC. At this time, it is anticipated that there will be two contiguous exhibitions:
1. Work exhibited in the Alper Initiative for Washington Art space will have been made between 1975 and 1985 to provide a historic context for the WWAC. It will be accompanied by a catalogue.
2. The second exhibition will feature current work by artists who were former members and exhibitors of the WWAC between 1975 - 1985.
We encourage you to submit images of work made between 1975 and 1985 and images of current work if you have both. However, you are welcome to submit one or the other.
Please include the following materials with your submission: a copy of your bio, a short artist statement expressing your relationship to the WWAC, up to 10 images (300dpi) of your work, and an image checklist with the Title, Date, Dimensions, and Medium for each piece. The deadline for submissions is November 6, 2017.
To ensure that you receive forthcoming information, we suggest that you join the Alper Initiative email list
and refer to the Memories of the Washington Women's Arts Center Facebook page
. Also, we ask that you share this information with collectors or the families of deceased members who might wish to submit qualifying work on behalf of those former members.
